Quiet Waters Business Park, Florida

Coastal Systems provided consulting engineering
services to evaluate the existing drainage system at
the Quiet Waters Business Park. The project site is
located at the intersection of Powerline Road and N.E. 10th
Street, in the City of Deerfield Beach, Florida. The parcel is
approximately 45.69 acres with approximately 36.84 acres of impervious area, along with 2.89 acres of landscape area, and 5.87 acres of retention area (which includes the retention pond).

Coastal Systems conducted a comprehensive engineering
investigation to evaluate site hydrology and the existing
stormwater management system. This review included
obtaining historical environmental resource permits for the site, as well as determining prioritized areas of drainage
improvements from operations personnel. Coastal Systems managed the detailed topographic survey data collection efforts to ensure site-drainage data was obtained by the surveyor. An engineering report was prepared summarizing the existing conditions, the alternatives for drainage improvements, the construction cost estimates, and the regulatory permitting constraints.

To address the flooding, a pump station was designed to convey the runoff from the parking lots. A 4,500 gpm pump was specified, and engineering calculations prepared to address the stage/storage capacity of the retention pond in conjunction with the pump operations. Controls and electrical service were designed for the pump, and construction plans and specifications were prepared. To alleviate flooding and impacts to the operations prior to construction/permitting and procurement of the permanent pump, Coastal Systems also designed a temporary, portable pump system to control flooding of the parking lots. In addition, the environmental permit for the pump improvements was processed through Broward County Environmental Protection and Growth Management
Department (EPGMD). Coastal Systems assisted the client in selecting a qualified contractor and also provided construction administration services.
